Paleni house

Located at the intersection between the Railway Station square and the current Viale Papa Giovanni XXIII, where the railway had arrived just a few decades before along with the new boulevard, Casa Paleni was in the middle of a dynamic and burgeoning area. This modernity can be noticed by the international style of its decoration, also combined with the personal taste of the architect Virginio Muzio and the commissioning family.

Built among 1902 and 1904, it stands out for the concrete decorations on the facade. At the first floor, you can admire the sinuous shape of the windows and – most of all – of the small openings right above them, together with the Sixteenth Century style putti and the bunches of grapes decorating the balcony. Upstairs, sculpted frames embellish the windows and two side pilasters decorated with feminine heads frame the whole facade. Liberty elements and references to the past mix up, creating a one of a kind composition. The cement processing was curated by the Paleni Company, which also created the sculptures for the facade of Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Grazie, down the lane.
