The Scanzo Muscat wine is today one of the smallest DOCG in Italy. Extremely valuable, Moscato is a sweet red grapes wraisin wine, obtained from native grapes grown on an area of only 31 hectares. Given the very limited production, it is considered a niche product, exclusive and refined. The Consortium for the Protection of Moscato di Scanzo guarantees, with its brand, its quality and excellence, aiming to spread in Italy and all over the world this unique and unmistakable wine. This precious wine is made from the grapes cultivated exclusively in the municipality of Scanzorosciate, in the province of Bergamo.
The “Consorzio di Tutela” was founded in Scanzorosciate in December 1993. Before that, the producers had been grouped in Associazione Produttori Moscato di Scanzo since 1982.
The first goal of the newly-established Consortium was to create a new name and a brand for Moscato in order to get recognition as unique red wine.
On April 17th 2002 the new name was ready: Moscato di Scanzo DOC.
On February 2009 the Minister of Agriculture ,after consultation with the National Wine Commitee, granted the highest denomination (DOCG) for Moscato, becoming the one and only DOCG wine in Bergamo and the fifth one of Lombardy Region.
The DOCG title, endorsed by a Ministerial Decree in 2009, ensures the quality and the protection of Moscato wine. Today the Consortium Moscato di Scanzo together with the mére and the City of Scanzorosciate, is actively involved in promoting Moscato throughout various events such as the Festival del Moscato taking place in September.
At the consortium headquarters, during opening hours, it is possible to taste the fine passito wine at a cost of € 5 per glass.
Open from Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 2.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. - CLOSED ON THURSDAY AFTERNOON
At the consortium wine shop you can buy Moscato di Scanzo DOCG produced by its members and other local wines as well.
