Description

The hike from Piazzo to Gremei mountain hut, in the heart of the Upper Brembana Valley, offers a scenic route through lush forests and breathtaking views. Starting from the picturesque locality of Piazzo, this route combines the challenge of climbs with the tranquility of alpine pastures, culminating in the welcoming Gremei mountain hut.

Towards Torcola Vaga

Piazzatorre, easily accessible from Bergamo by the B50 bus or by car with parking at the ski lifts, is the perfect starting point for this mountain adventure. The hike begins from Piazzo, located at 1,105 meters above sea level. From here, take trail number 121, which is on the left between the ice rink and the chairlift to Gremei. The trail winds up through the forest with a series of steep switchbacks, following the Piazzatorre stream to a flat area. After crossing the stream, the route continues with a more moderate incline, leading up to the Torcola Vaga hut at 1,486 meters. At this point, the landscape transforms into a magical setting, surrounded by pastures and scattered fir trees, with a few huts that reflect the once-frequent summer pastoral activity.

From Corna dei Bagoli to Gremei mountain hut

Just beyond the hut, leave the country road and climb to the left up the green pastures until you reach the saddle of Corna dei Bagoli, one of the most panoramic points of the hike. From Baita Alta, take trail 119 to the right, which leads to the ridge line. This part of the trail represents the toughest climb but also offers the best views, allowing you to admire the valley below from every angle.

After reaching the summit of Corna dei Bagoli, at about the fifth kilometer, the fittest hikers can easily continue to the nearby peak of Torcola Soliva Mount, crowned by the former Torcole mountain hut, a privileged viewpoint over much of Brembana Valley. Otherwise, continue along the trail and make a sharp right turn, descending towards Gremei mountain hut. Situated at 1,550 meters, near the ski lifts, the refuge is a popular gathering spot for mountain enthusiasts and casual walkers alike. Here, you can relax in the solarium and enjoy a typical local dish, making the experience even more rewarding after the effort of the hike.

For the return, pass beneath the arrival station of the Gremei 1 chairlift. After about 400 meters through the forest, the trail reconnects with the Torcola Vaga hut, offering a familiar path from the ascent. Alternatively, you can opt for a relaxing descent via the chairlift, allowing you to take in the stunning natural scenery from above.

This hike, with its challenging climbs and panoramic descents, provides a complete and satisfying trekking experience, immersed in the natural beauty of the Upper Brembana Valley.
