Trekking from Pizzino to Gherardi mountain hut

The journey begins in Pizzino, a picturesque hamlet in the municipality of Taleggio. Here you will find a peaceful and authentic atmosphere, perfect for immersing yourself in the beauty of the valley. Walk along Via Arighiglio, which will lead you towards the Quindicina area, where you will find a convenient parking lot marked with "Capo Foppa" signs. After parking, head to the nearby information panel. This will provide an overview of the route you are about to take. Walk about 300 meters downhill, then take the trail to the right, near two characteristic mountain huts. The huts of Taleggio Valley are a true symbol of the area. Their steeply sloped roofs, with pitches up to 60°, are covered with thick stone slabs (piode), a local stone up to 8 cm thick. These slabs are arranged horizontally and overlapped to withstand the weight of snow and weather, a functional and fascinating architectural feature.

After about 200 meters, you will reach a hairpin turn offering a brief moment of relief from the inclines. This flat section is short, so take the opportunity to catch your breath. Continuing on, after one kilometer, the climb resumes. As you follow the trail, you will reach the Foppa pasture at 1.5 kilometers. This section winds through an enchanting forest, and once you arrive at the pasture, you can enjoy a splendid view of the path you have just walked. From here, you will admire the profile of Monte Resegone and the surrounding pastures, a view that will reward your efforts so far.

Continuing on, you will start to catch sight of the wide grassy plain where Gherardi mountain hut is located. This place is not just the endpoint of your route, but also an opportunity to explore further. In fact, trails from the refuge lead to Monte Sodadura and Pizzo Baciamorti, ideal destinations for more experienced hikers.

After resting and perhaps enjoying some local specialties at the mountain hut, it is time to return to the Capo Foppa parking lot. Retrace your steps for a few meters, then take the trail to the left. This will lead you along a paved forest road, passing through meadows, huts, and water springs, until you reach the starting point again. This route has given you a taste of the untouched beauty of Taleggio Valley, with its picturesque landscapes and traditional architecture. Gherardi mountain hut is not just a destination, but also a starting point for new adventures.
