Built by the Suardi family in the mid-14th cent.
XIV, later becoming the property of the Consortium of Misericordia and the Avogadro family, it was the seat from 1428 to 1797 of the Podestà of Bergamo, the highest representative in the City of the Venetian State.
In 1477 the facade was decorated with frescoes by Donato Bramante, whose few saved fragments are preserved in the Salone delle Capriate of the Palazzo della Ragione.
Numerous remodels underwent over time and the functions performed by the Palace.
