Gombito Street

Description

The name comes from the Latin compitum, crossroads.
In the age r
omana was the intersection between the decumanus maximus (Via Gombito – Via Colleoni) and the cardo maximus (Via S. Lorenzo – Via Mario Lupo).
The medieval city developed on the articulation of the Roman city, whose urban scheme was characterized
rized by the inconorthogonal trough of streets, cardi (north to south) and decumani (east to west).
Evidence of Roman Bergamo can be found in the Civic Archaeological Museum in Piazza Cittadella.
