Welcome to Val Taleggio!
If you have decided to explore this wonderful valley and reach Rifugio Gherardi, you are in the right place, following this route through an adventure among enchanting villages and breathtaking landscapes.
The journey begins in Pizzino, a picturesque hamlet in the town of Taleggio.
Here you will find a quiet and authentic environment, ideal for immersing yourself in the beauty of the valley.
Go all the way along Via Arighiglio, which will take you to the locality Quindicina, where you will find a convenient parking lot marked by the signs “Capo Foppa.”
After parking, head to the information board you will find not far away.
This will give you an overview of the route you are about to take.
Walk about 300 meters down the valley and then take the path on the right, at the height of two characteristic mountain huts.
The huts of Val Taleggio are a true symbol of the area.
Their very sloping roofs, with a slope of up to 60°, are covered with slabs of piode, a local stone up to 8 cm thick.
These slabs are arranged horizontally and stacked to support the weight of snow and weather, a functional and fascinating architectural detail.
After about 200 meters, you will encounter a hairpin bend that offers a brief moment of relief from the inclines.
This flat section is short, so take advantage of it to catch your breath.
Continuing on, a kilometer from the start, the climb resumes.
Continuing along the trail, you will reach the Foppa pasture at kilometer 1.5.
This section winds through an enchanting forest, and once you reach the alpine pasture, you will enjoy a splendid view of the entire route you have just taken.
From here, you will admire the profile of Resegone and the surrounding pastures, a view that will repay your efforts so far.
As you continue on, you will begin to catch a glimpse in the distance of the wide grassy plain where Rifugio Gherardi is located.
This place is not only the end point of the trail, but also an opportunity to explore further.
In fact, trails lead from the refuge to Mount Sodadura and Pizzo Baciamorti, ideal stops for more experienced hikers.
After resting and perhaps enjoying some local specialties at the hut, it is time to return to the Cape Foppa parking lot.
Retrace your steps for a few meters, then take the path to the left.
This will take you along a cemented forest road, through meadows, huts and bubbling water, until you reach the starting point again.
This trail has given you a taste of the unspoiled beauty of Val Taleggio, with its striking landscapes and traditional architecture.
Rifugio Gherardi is not just a destination, but a starting point for new adventures.
