The route, completely surrounded by greenery, is loved by young children because they can walk and run in complete freedom.
It requires appropriate footwear and special attention in some sections due to the presence of rocks, but in its complexity it is considered a short and medium difficulty route with a climb having a 15% gradient.
The start is from Via Quintino Alto in Bergamo, and right away you are accompanied between the parks of two beautiful private villas, where there is a red and white flag with the number 533 to mark the CAI trail, visible at the foot of the initial staircase.
You proceed always following the path that points to the final goal: Colle della Maresana.
Along the way you will be surrounded by a landscape of silence and stillness, ideal for admiring the panorama facing south of the city.
As you climb, the views become increasingly spectacular, especially in spring, when the rocks along the trail become colored with the fuchsia-petaled blooms and yellow tips of the polygala.
Maresana Hill, located beyond the northeastern edge of the city along the ridge that defines the beginning of the Seriana Valley, is a place of refuge for lovers of silence and greenery.
At 546 meters high, the Maresana is characterized by chestnut forests and offers breathtaking views of the lower town and the surrounding plain.
For the little ones, the walk turns into a fun adventure.
Once at the top, Ca’ Matta Park offers botanical and sensory trails in the forest, a small artificial pond and a large meadow where you can relax and enjoy the sun.
The park invites the discovery of biodiversity, offering various activities and workshops geared toward environmental protection and building an eco-consciousness.
In addition, near the Church of St. Mark in Maresana, there is a small playground that offers additional recreation for children.
Adults, on the other hand, can explore the history of the religious building, built in 1520 and expanded during the 16th century, or relax in the historic restaurant located nearby.
The Maresana Pass rewards the effort of everyone, young and old, by giving the feeling of being on the largest panoramic balcony overlooking Bergamo.
The view of the plain below is breathtaking, a real reward for tackling the climb.
Walking to believe.
