A new Reading Group by ANPI Bergamo and Libreria Palomar, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation. The first meeting will be with “The Moon Has Set” by John Steinbeck.
World War II. A small village in Norway is occupied by the German army without the inhabitants being able to understand the gravity of the situation or organize any form of opposition. After the initial shock, the small community will learn a fundamental lesson: the strength of the individual is based on the unity of the group. After witnessing violence and betrayals by the invader, the long-dormant spirit of independence and revenge will take hold and consolidate. First with sporadic executions of the occupying soldiers, then with systematic and organized guerrilla warfare, the community will prove to others and to itself that no one is won until they surrender.
Upcoming events:
– June 13: “True Days: diary of the Resistance” by Giovanna Zangrandi
– July 11: “Last Comes the Raven” by Italo Calvino
The whole story should be told. Read together the Resistances
This is the title of a new initiative of the ANPI of Bergamo dedicated to the discovery, or rediscovery, of great books that tell the story of the Italian Resistance and other resistances, designed to mark the 80th anniversary of the Liberation from Nazi-Fascism. It is a new Reading Group, with free participation, with six appointments for six Fridays once a month, at the Palomar Bookstore in Bergamo.
