The Basilica dedicated to St. Mary of the Assumption and St. John the Baptist is the main place of worship in Clusone and was built between 1688 and 1698 to a design by the architect of the Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano, Giovan Battista Quadrio.
It was solemnly consecrated in 1711 and in 1961 was awarded the title of basilica minor by Pope John XXIII.
When you enter the Basilica you are in front of a treasure chest of rare beauty and harmonious composition of different styles, in which each decorative element fits perfectly into the overall Baroque style: marble altars, gilded stucco, sumptuous sacred vestments and canvases by the most important artists of the Lombard-Venetian tradition.
Of renowned beauty are the statues placed on either side of the altarpieces, the majestic High Altar and the wooden fantoniano group of the Crucifix.
The façade of the church is slightly salient and has no special decoration: at the top, in the center is a rectangular window.
There is also a museum that can be visited on holidays and pre-holidays, with free admission.
