Located at 850 m on Mount Altino and set on a crossroads of valleys (Val Cavallina to the east, Val Gandino and Valle Rossa to the north, Val Seriana to the west and Valle del Lujo to the south) is the Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of Mount Altino.
The origins of the Shrine of Altino date back to the apparition of Our Lady on July 23, 1496, on a scorching day, during which an inhabitant of the Vall’Alta prayed to Our Lady for water, and after the Blessed Virgin appeared, a gush of water gushed forth like a spring from the rock.
At the back of the shrine is a small fountain into which water from the spring is piped, which can be drawn by pilgrims as a gift from Mary.
The “Apparition” is celebrated on July 23.
Our Lady of Altino has her own special prayer.
Numerous works of art are preserved in this shrine: above all, we must mention some frescoes attributed to Cristoforo Baschenis.
The Sanctuary is surrounded by greenery, surrounded by forests, and the environment around it is cozy and scenic.
It is open from Angel Monday (after Easter) to Immaculate Conception (Dec. 8)
