Located in Casnigo on Mount Erbia, the shrine is a testament to the strong devotion to the Virgin Mary.
There are many legends regarding the origin of this shrine.
According to one of the many legends, a much revered image depicting Our Lady of the Crib was painted on the wall inside the farmhouse of a local farmer, and the many pilgrims who came to venerate the image trampled the grass of the surrounding fields and, so one evening, the annoyed farmer scarred the painting with hoes, which, however, reappeared during the night.
In the late 18th and early 19th centuries a small church was erected and blessed in 1813.
The wall of the farmstead bearing the venerated image was incorporated into the shrine.
The interior of the church is in the Baroque Latin cross style and holds numerous works of art.
A glass case displays and preserves the last cassock worn by Holy Pope John Paul II.
