This book takes us into that mysterious space that sets in motion the transition from war to peace and the disposition to dialogue, which still represents the heart of human affairs. A word-slogan abused and worn out, often trivialized or consolatory, every day invoked and every day violated. Why is the absence or cessation of war mostly used to define peace? A genuine mental and behavioral challenge, peace-which does not mean pacifism-is a multiple container, and its changing architecture never ceases to engage theorists and practitioners in the international arena. Today, in the third millennium, disoriented and surrounded by many traditional and non-traditional wars, it may still be useful to anchor ourselves in the idea that peace is first thought, then done. This book takes the reader behind the scenes of its process and rediscovers it–including through the contributions of women–between past and present, between missed opportunities, visions and lessons from reality.

Review
EireneFest, Book Festival for Peace and Nonviolence born in Rome in 2022, arrives for the first time in Bergamo thanks to a group of local associations committed to peace and human rights. The festival promotes reflection, confrontation and relationships through books, enhancing the culture of nonviolence and solidarity. The Bergamo edition is held in collaboration with the independent bookstores of the historic Booksellers’ Fair. The Fair is organized in islands dedicated to different themes: fiction, nonfiction, local publishing, history, science, children’s literature and so on. In this edition an area dedicated to books on peace and nonviolence is added. Also among the book presentations, a section on the theme of education for peace and nonviolence has been organized with new publications and reflections, characterized by the logo of EireneFest.
