As you enter the interior of the Rocca, an ancient citadel dating back to 1331, you will find yourself retracing the history of Bergamo.
First and foremost, the route is the guided tour of the nineteenth-century section of the Museum of the Histories of Bergamo, which is housed here, but it is also the path among the gardens, galleries, towers, and war memorabilia that you will be able to find as you explore this fortification.
It is precisely by walking the gallery route, the one that the soldiers on guard duty made centuries ago, that you will be able to have a truly magical experience: a 360 grand panoramic tour around the perimeter of the building.
You will enjoy at a glance the Upper Town, the Orobie Mountains and the entire plain below.
The walk through history also continues in the garden: discover the many relics from the two world wars!
Construction of the complex began in 1331 but over time it was upgraded, especially in its defensive function.
One of the most striking elements is definitely the circular keep, the main tower of the fortress from which-being the highest point of the entire edifice-the panoramic view is priceless: if you’re lucky, from here, on the clearest days you can even catch a glimpse of the outline of Milan from afar!
Looking out along the walls of the fortress you will catch a glimpse of the Remembrance Park below, the little ones will surely appreciate the cannons and tank, kept here.
For quieter souls, on the other hand, the cypress-shaded driveways will provide a memory-laden and evocative place for a stroll.
