Moscato di Scanzo is a red muscat wine and is one of the most exclusive DOCG wines in Italy: the grapes of this vine are grown in a territory of only 31 hectares in the Municipality of Scanzorosciate. A special microclimate and the calcareous soil, characterised by high minerality and water scarsity, are what makes these grapes really unique. They are healthy, fragrant and rich in aromas.
The production regulations are very strict: grapes are carefully collected by hand between the end of September and mid-October. They are then selected and placed to dry on trellises, in a ventilated environment, for at least 21 days. Muscat wine does not agree with wood, so it is aged in glass and steel containers. No earlier than two years after harvest can it be marketed, starting from 1 November.
It has a warm ruby red color with purple hues. Its balanced, elegant, slightly sweet taste makes it an ideal match for typical herbal cheeses from the Bergamo area, namely DOC strachitunt and gorgonzola, but also other cheeses like bitto, seasoned formai de mut and goat cheeses. It is also higly appreciated when accompanied by dark chocolate and dry pastries.
