Kicking off “Eirenefest,” the book festival for peace and nonviolence at the “Booksellers’ Fair”: meeting with author Aluisi Tosolini and methods for learning and teaching peace in school.
While war is taught, peace education remains marginal: only 700 schools in Italy offer dedicated activities. This issue of VITA explores five educational models for conflict management, including the Montessori method and the Swallow Citadel of Peace approach. Opportunities for personal engagement, such as service in the White Helmets or international cooperation, are also explored. To understand the perspective of the younger generation on peace, eleven young people and four experts-including Maura Gancitano and Enrico Galiano-discuss the topic in a context marked by war.
Author ALUISI TOSOLINI in dialogue with STEFANO REMUZZI, director of the Office for Social and Labor Pastoral Care.

EireneFest, Book Festival for Peace and Nonviolence born in Rome in 2022, arrives for the first time in Bergamo thanks to a group of local associations committed to peace and human rights. The festival promotes reflection, confrontation and relationships through books, enhancing the culture of nonviolence and solidarity. The Bergamo edition is held in collaboration with the independent bookstores of the historic Booksellers’ Fair. The Fair is organized in islands dedicated to different themes: fiction, nonfiction, local publishing, history, science, children’s literature and so on. In this edition an area dedicated to books on peace and nonviolence is added. Also among the book presentations, a section on the theme of education for peace and nonviolence has been organized with new publications and reflections, characterized by the logo of EireneFest.
