Features
GAMeC – Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea was founded in 1991 just across the street from the Pinacoteca dell’Accademia Carrara, in a restored 15th-century architectural complex formerly used as a monastery. Its diversified programming-open to experimentation with contemporary languages and multidisciplinarity, and at the same time anchored to the institution’s roots and heritage-has made it over the years a multifaceted space capable of engaging diverse audiences.
With its 1,500 square meters of exhibition space, it is a place that welcomescontemporary art in all its forms: temporary solo and group exhibitions by international artists, unpublished projects by emerging artists, and a rich calendar of collateral activities designed for different types of audiences are the strength of the Gallery’s cultural policy, which stands as a dynamic place for confrontation, in-depth study, and cultural integration, in constant evolution.
Educational programs and activities for all
Alongside the dense exhibition program, GAMeC is characterized by a rich calendar of collateral events dedicated to adults and children, promoted by the Gallery’s Educational Services, which have been present in the area for more than 20 years and are daily engaged in the conception of projects and opportunities to approach contemporary art.
In addition to the itineraries specifically dedicated to children and parents, there are special activities that constitute real fixed appointments, as over time has become the workshop for the youngest ‘Waiting for Santa Lucia’ in December.
During the summer vacations, for more than ten years, GAMeC’s workshops have been involving children and young artists with a rich calendar of activities led by museum educators and trained professionals.
Events dedicated to adults include the ‘Art Odyssey’ course and ‘Outpourings,’ art-experiential workshops that allow the public to enjoy art in a dilated time and give themselves a space in which to experiment and value their creativity.
From May to September, on Sundays, the Gallery courtyard hosts ‘Happening‘: happy hour, music and art in a special setting!
