Fontanile Brancaleone Nature Reserve is located on the border between Pagazzano, a town that is home to a wonderful castle, and Caravaggio, a town on the Bergamo plain known for its highly visited Marian shrine, about 20 km from the city of Bergamo.
The reserve covers about 10 hectares of greenery, forest and ponds.
Although it is a small area, it is home to various species of plants, flowers and animals.
In terms of flora, the Sill Fountain, sees wooded areas, cultivated areas, and areas with marsh vegetation.
The most common animals are different types of frogs, the European mole, the fox, but especially many birds.
To name a few: the grey heron, lark, nightingale, kingfisher, goldfinch, and barn owl.
Visits:
Access to the area is provided only for people authorized by the managing body, so visits must always be authorized by the managing body.
Visits are allowed only along the prepared and marked routes.
For organized group visits (max. 30 people), access is allowed subject to accompaniment by staff appointed by the managing body.
