The baluardo and the Fara meadow are located next to the baluardo of S. Agostino, near Porta S. Agostino, at the eastern end of the walls of Città Alta.
The bulwark is part of the fortifications built in the 16th century by the Republic of Venice to defend Bergamo, now a UNESCO site, and together with the Fara curtain wall protected the area between the S. Agostino and S. Lorenzo bulwarks.
Today it is a scenic and popular part of the walks along the walls, thanks to the tranquility of the area and the presence of various relaxation areas.
Further inland, just in front of the former church of S. Agostino lies the Fara meadow, for a long time an inaccessible area.
Here, in fact, used to open up what the Bergamasks called ‘fupù,’ a large hole later filled in the 1930s with the rubble of abandoned and irretrievable houses of Città Alta, demolished as part of the redevelopment plan initiated by engineer Luigi Angelini.
Today, fortunately, this meadow is a meeting place for many people: not As soon as warm weather arrives, the area fills up with sportsmen, groups of friends and families eager to spend time outdoors.
