As spring approaches, Bergamo transforms into the beating heart of international cinema with a new edition of BFM43. A must-attend festival for film lovers, it has been bringing the best of European and international auteur cinema to the big screen for over 40 years.
In 2025, the event will open the Bergamo Jazz Festival with a special event on Sunday, March 16th. The evening will begin with the screening of Roman Polański’s masterpiece, Nóż w wodzie (Knife in the Water); this will be followed by Ernst Lubitsch’s slapstick comedy Kohlhiesels Töchter (Two Sisters), featuring a live soundtrack performed by musician Danilo Gallo, using electric bass, bass balalaika, and sound effects. A cinematic and musical experience not to be missed!
In 2025, the Europe, Now! section will once again highlight the excellence of contemporary European auteur cinema, featuring two exclusive national premiere retrospectives:
Alice Nellis (Czech Republic), screenwriter and director of films such as Ene bene – Eeny Meeny, Tajnosti – Little Secrets, and Buko.
Christian Petzold (Germany), a leading figure of the Berlin School, known for masterpieces like Barbara, Phoenix, Transit, Undine, and Afire.
Both directors will be guests in Bergamo during the festival, giving audiences the chance to meet them in person.
The Europe, Now! section will also include a selection of graduate films from European film schools affiliated with CILECT and the Film Industry Meetings (March 12th-13th), an essential networking and professional development platform for industry professionals.
