“Eirenefest,” the book festival for peace and nonviolence at the “Booksellers’ Fair,” continues: meeting with author Giuseppe Barone and a story about the life and work of a man of peace.
On the centenary of his birth, the figure of Danilo Dolci (1924-1997), one of the most influential thinkers of nonviolence and the struggle against poverty and for the emancipation of the South, vigorously returns to the limelight. A sociologist, poet, educator and activist, Dolci chose Sicily as the theater of his nonviolent struggle, committing himself to the right to bread, work, democracy and against all forms of the Mafia. EireneFest, Book Festival for Peace and Nonviolence born in Rome in 2022, arrives for the first time in Bergamo thanks to a group of local associations committed to peace and human rights. The festival promotes reflection, confrontation and relationships through books, enhancing the culture of nonviolence and solidarity. The Bergamo edition is held in collaboration with the independent bookstores of the historic Booksellers’ Fair.The Fair is organized in islands dedicated to different themes: fiction, nonfiction, local publishing, history, science, children’s literature and so on. In this edition an area dedicated to books on peace and nonviolence is added. Also among the book presentations, a section on the theme of education for peace and nonviolence has been organized with new publications and reflections, characterized by the logo of EireneFest.
