“Eirenefest,” the book festival for peace and nonviolence at the “Booksellers’ Fair” continues: appointment with author Alberto Chiara and the story about the figure of this bishop.
“On July 16, 2023, Monsignor Luigi Bettazzi embraced that God in whom he believed body and soul, never shutting him up in church, amidst burning candles and the scent of incense, but making him walk the dusty roads of rights, justice, and peace. One year after his death we try to write his biography. Challenge. A passionate pastor of souls, a sleepless writer, Fr. Luigi collected encounters of all kinds and wrote thousands of pages. In the chapters that follow, we offer the much we have discovered from Treviso to Bologna, from Ivrea to Molfetta, pausing for a long time in the Castle of Albiano, his last home, scratched by time and therefore resigned, despite its high-sounding name.” This is how Alberto Chiara introduces to the reading of this biography, which is a continuous rediscovery not only of the man, priest and pastor Luigi Bettazzi, but also of his relationships, in a world that, a year after his death, reveals his story and his words even more important and prophetic: his commitment to a Church attentive to contemporaneity and to a peace that is continually offended, make Bettazzi a voice that, today above all, must not be silenced and forgotten. Preface by Andrea Riccardi.
