The particular conformation of the Val Cavallina, near the village of Solto Collina, gives rise to truly fascinating climatic phenomena: the gravelly soil of its depressions in fact preserves winter ice in the subsoil, and the winds that descend from the mountains above then causes currents of cold air to escape from the mouths of the ground.
Just think that in summer you can find a climatic difference of up to 30 degrees between the Cold Valley and the atmospheric temperature of neighboring countries!
This microclimate has allowed the development of high mountain vegetation at hilly altitudes, especially flowers: be careful while walking, you might even find the rare edelweiss!
The Nature Reserve is also a perfect place where you can engage in birdwatching, thanks to the more than 28 species of birds that live among its trees.
