Discover Gromo, one of Italy’s most beautiful villages. Stroll its medieval streets, visit the Museum of White Arms and Parchments, and enjoy the outdoor activities offered by Spiazzi di Gromo. Gromo, a recipient of the Orange Flag, awaits you with its quality hospitality.
A plunge into the Middle Ages
Driving up the Seriana Valley, at one point you will find the road interrupted by a dark cliff. Perched above it stands Gromo: one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Through its medieval streets you’ll feel as if you’re walking back in history: finding a blacksmith hammering on his anvil wouldn’t sound out of place, especially since in the Middle Ages the presence of numerous forges made Gromo comparable to the famous Toledo, famous for its production of bladed weapons. And a little taste of local arms and armor production can be had in the lovely Museum of White Arms and Parchments set up inside Palazzo Milesi.
Art and architecture
Simple, rustic gray stone dominates the streets of this ancient hamlet. The roofs are still made of slate, a typical feature of the entire mountain area of Bergamo. The buildings leave no room for sophisticated and unnecessary decorations: this is a village built in a time when people worked and cared for the essentials! However, there is no shortage of little sought-after gems, ready to be picked up by the most attentive and curious visitor, such as the frescoes dating back to the 16th century in the chapel of the church of SS Giacomo e Vincenzo.
Sports and nature
Enchanted by the ups and downs of this hamlet, don’t forget the setting in which the village is located: just a 10-minute drive will take you to the Spiazzi di Gromo alpine ski slopes. Perfect for skiing in winter, they won’t disappoint you in summer either, with their trails amid pristine forests or, for lovers of more adrenaline-pumping activities, the suspended trails of the adventure park.
Gastronomy and typical products
Butcher stores and delicatessen stores invite you to buy some specialties; alternatively, you can sit comfortably in one of the town’s restaurants to enjoy local delicacies.
