At this elevated site, history has often alternated.
Around the year 1000 a fortification was built.
One of its towers was later transformed into a beautiful Romanesque bell tower, next to which rose the first parish church.
The old 14th-century structure was remodeled in the 18th century, but even this building is no longer visible today.
In fact, the ancient church of St. John was torn down in 1904, much to the chagrin of Angelo Roncalli, who loved it dearly.
