From the funicular in the upper city, climb up to the hill of Sant’Eufemia to reach the Rocca complex, one of the places of the heart of the Bergamasks.
The short walk is well rewarded by theexceptional 360-degree panoramic view from the keep: before your eyes, in addition to the wonders of the upper city, the Orobian Pre-Alps and the entire Bergamo plain, all the way to Milan.
The Rocca, a fortification of 14th-century origin, still bears clear traces of the military function it has had over the centuries: walk the patrol walkway, discover the rescue gate and enter the bomber’s house, now home to the 19th-century Museum.
The itinerary recounts the transformations of the city between the Ancien Regime and the Unification of Italy. A Bergamo in the midst of the Risorgimento climate in which the stories of the 180 Bergamasks of the Thousand who joined Garibaldi in the heroic enterprise come to life.
