The Shrine of Our Lady of the Tower is considered one of the oldest, as well as one of the most beautiful, in the diocese of Bergamo.
Its origin is said to be due to Emperor Charlemagne in the year 801.
The three-aisled interior is an authentic picture gallery, full of beautiful paintings, some of them of absolute value.
The high altar, made of polychrome marble, modeled and decorated in inlay by Fantoni, is surmounted in the center by the small tribune with the fresco depicting the Madonna.
The numerous votive offerings, many of which carpet the walls of the Angel Chapel on the way to the shrine, prove the trust that local believers have placed in their Madonna for centuries.
The same confidence that inspired the oldest Marian prayer, still among the most beautiful and singularly attuned to the expectations of those who flock to the Shrine of Our Lady of the Tower: ‘Under your protection we seek refuge, holy Mother of God; do not despise the supplications of us who are in trial, but deliver us from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin.
