Old Mill of Cusio

The mill wheel still turns in Cusio, in the upper Brembana Valley.
Taste the flour produced by this ancient millstone-you’ll taste the flavor of tradition.

Description

Restored to its original splendor by a recent restoration, the Antico Mulino tells the story not only of the Brembana Valley, but of much of rural Italy.

Made of stone and slate, inside you can admire the original wooden gears of the over 150-year-old construction.
Today, as then, the power of water drives the mill wheel, which in turn starts the milling process.

You can visit the Old Mill throughout the year and get firsthand experience of flour processing through the Corn Trail.

Your journey on the corn road begins in a cultivated field to learn how to grow this grain in the mountains.
Then you visit a dryer where the corn is put to dry before arriving at the Mill.

Here, thanks to the force of the water, you can see it being ground into flour.
Inside the Antico Mulino every year there is an Autumn Festival: you can see how the mill works, how flour is made, and then finish by enjoying a nice plate of polenta accompanied by local products such as salami and casoncelli.
