The Parco dell’Oglio Nord is a river park in the Lombardy region that runs along the course of the Oglio River, covering an area of 14,170 hectares.
Within the territory of the park there are a number of nature reserves of great natural and environmental interest and value.
This is a purely agricultural area, and along the course of the river are steep and wooded banks: the inhabitants of the forest are large trees such as maple, chestnut, poplar, willow, and locust, and on them the climbing ivy.
Venturing along the park trails, it is easy to encounter hedgehogs, hares and other small animals.
With a bit of luck you may also come across rarer animals such as weasels, foxes or badgers.
There are numerous bodies of water with rich vegetation and many species of fish.
Looking up to the sky you can see the grey heron, crow, swallow and many others flying.
Along the shore, dirt roads where you can walk, bike, or horseback ride.
A large necropolis from the Gallic period (2nd-1st century B.C.) was recently discovered between Cividino and Pontoglio, and there are many important historical architectural sites present.
One above all, the Castle of Pumenengo, whose peculiarity is its trapezoidal structure with three towers (only two have remained intact and we can still see them today), built to defend the territory in a strategic position to control the Pallavicino Canal and the Oglio River.
