From the head of the bridge to St. Alexander’s Gate, the Aqueduct of the Vases (3.5 km, height difference 70 m) brought water from springs on the northern slopes of the hills into the city.
Of very ancient origin, it supplied water for domestic use until the early 19th century.
That for work, on the other hand, was conducted from the Serio River at the foot of the city, where the main manufacturing activities were developed.
