Shrine of Our Lady of the Miracle

Erected to honor the miracle that occurred here in the 13th century, it is a treasure chest of treasures and beautiful works of art.

Description

In Desenzano al Serio, a hamlet of Albino, is the Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of the Miracle of the Leg, a Catholic place of worship dating back to the 18th century.

Built to honor the 1440 miracle performed on young Venturina Bonelli, a young girl with a severe leg infection who was healed as a result of Our Lady’s Apparition.
The shrine was built over a small pre-existing church (previously it was the home dwelling of the young Venturina).

The church, with a rectangular plan, is accessible from the large churchyard.
Outside is the bell tower, built in the late 19th century, on top of which is a 3.5-meter gilded copper angel.

The interior of the church has a single nave and, under the altar, one can admire the sculptural group commemorating the Miracle of the Leg, the work of Andrea Fantoni.
Along the walls are a number of paintings depicting the apparition and votive offerings, evidence of the gifts offered to Our Lady by the pilgrims who always arrived in large numbers.

Beautiful frescoes characterize the ceiling and the dome above the altar.

October 9 marks the Feast of the Shrine, during which a fair is held in the streets adjacent to the building.

It is open all year round.
