The Fal’Fil Museum is housed in Palazzo Suardi Re Meris in the historic heart of Ranzanico, overlooking Lake Endine.
The area was on the routes of the silk routes even in ancient times, and the focus of the museum exhibits is precisely the heritage–cultural and material–related to the spinning of this wonderful fabric. On the ground and first floors you will discover how silk is created, thanks to explanations of the methods used to process it and the presence of original machinery from the period 1700-1900. One room is entirely dedicated to the results of the processing, the fine yarns and fabrics that Val Cavallina used to export to the rest of the peninsula and the world. A curiosity not to be missed is the collection of silkworms from every corner of the world.. The high craft activity of spinning is contextualized through a collection of period photographs.
The top floor of the building also houses the “Once Upon a Time” Collection, a permanent exhibition of memorabilia and period clothing of local people, curated by the Art in the Valley Association.
Framing the museum tour is Palazzo Suardi, recently restored to its original splendor by careful restoration.
The version we can admire today is the nineteenth-century one, a period to which the sandstone colonnade behind which the eighteenth-century architecture is hidden dates.
Among stone fireplaces, frescoed rooms and Art Nouveau decorations, a visit to the mansion undoubtedly complements and enriches a visit to the museum.
The Palace is surrounded by a vast brolo-garden with terraces sloping down the hillside.
All around is the beauty of the Cavallina Valley, with its lake and mountain slopes.
