St. Martha's Cloister

A little corner of paradise, an oasis that combines art, harmony and quiet, the Cloister of Santa Marta is a glimpse of refined beauty waiting to be discovered in the heart of Lower Town.

Description

Sometimes the most hidden treasures are also the most beautiful.
An example of this is the Cloister of Santa Marta: despite being barely visible from the outside, this cloister houses two sculptural masterpieces of absolute value: a statue, the “Seated Cardinal,” by the famous Bergamo sculptor Giacomo Manzù and a monolith by the great artist Anish Kapoor.

The place itself is atmospheric, and the play of light created by the columns and capitals create an oasis of peace and elegance.

It is well over six hundred years old, but certainly the centuries have not changed its charm: walking through its arcades you will have the feeling of being transported out of time.

This charming hidden corner, once part of a now-destroyed convent, can be reached via the Crispi Gallery, which directly overlooks Piazza Vittorio Veneto.
