Huge stalactites, imposing stalagmites, white limestone concretions forming petrified curtains and magical environments: and all this right under your feet!
In the village of Zogno, in the Brembana Valley.
Generally to explore these hypogeal environments you would need spelunking equipment and skills, the Caves of Wonders, on the other hand, grant you their charms with ease: the convenient entrance carved out just above the provincial road and the tour route, make them perfect for a quick trip out of Bergamo (they are less than 20 kilometers from the city) or for an educational excursion with the whole family.
The Wonder Caves were discovered in 1932 and opened to the public as early as 1939, becoming the first tourist caves in Italy.
This cave was originally accessed through the entrance, called in dialect the “Büs de la Marta” (Marta’s Hole), from which it was necessary to descend 60 meters of vertical shafts to reach the area of greatest interest due to its concentration of concretions.
Therefore, to make it easier for everyone to enter, a 73-meter tunnel was subsequently dug that comes out near the Valle Brembana provincial road.
Now there are no more excuses: you will only need a few minutes to reach this magical experience!
For a number of years now, taking care of their maintenance, study and guiding tourists through these fascinating underground environments are the volunteers of the speleological group “Caves of Wonders” of Zogno, whom we invite you to contact to schedule your visit.
Sportswear and non-slip shoes are recommended.
Temperature inside the caves 12°C
Entrance in groups of 25 to 30 people.
Duration of the visit 45 minutes.
