St. Augustine Reservoir

Description

To make up for water shortages and droughts, the Bondo Petello Aqueduct, a 13-km pipeline from the Seriana Valley, was built in the late 19th century.

The St. Augustine reservoir, built in 1881, collected and redistributed water in Lower Town.
Later, in 1889, a pump capable of supplying the fountains of Upper Town as well was activated from the large reservoir.
In the following decades, characterized by a strong population increase, starting in 1912 the existing reservoir and water mains were used to feed a second aqueduct from Algua in the Brembana Valley.
