The Bellini Art Gallery in Sarnico, located on the shores of Lake Iseo, is just a 40-minute drive from Bergamo and Orio al Serio Airport. Opened in 2004, it houses an extraordinary collection of over 150 artworks, primarily paintings from the 16th to 18th centuries. This remarkable collection, donated to the community by Don Gianni Bellini, also includes marble and wooden statues, antique furniture, and valuable processional crucifixes.
Situated in the heart of Sarnico’s historic centre, within the oldest part of Palazzo Gervasoni (15th century), the gallery offers a unique cultural experience. The palazzo, beautifully restored with modern technologies, retains historic elements such as the cloister and the loggia.
The artworks are spread across three floors, with a stunning skylight providing natural light to the exhibition spaces.
A journey through regional artistic schools
The collection is thematically and chronologically organised, divided into regional artistic schools: Lombard, Venetian, Emilian, Tuscan, Roman, and Neapolitan. The ground and first floors showcase sacred and secular works, while the second floor features landscapes, still lifes, and architectural capriccios.
Notable masterpieces include: the Madonna and Child with St. Philip Benizi by Francesco Zucco (Lombard school), the Lamentation over the Dead Christ by Palma il Giovane (Venetian school), the Incredulity of Saint Thomas by Daniel Seiter (Roman school) and the Penitent Madonna, attributed to Luca Giordano (Neapolitan school).
